On July 26, 2025, at the Eisenhart Black competition in Bavaria, Germany, Hafþór Björnsson (The Mountain from Game of Thrones) proved once again why he’s known as one of the strongest men on the planet. He successfully executed a conventional deadlift of 505 kg (1,113 lbs), setting a new official world record. This monumental lift broke his own previous mark of 501 kg, originally set in 2020, and erased any lingering doubts surrounding that home-gym performance.
According to Men’s Health, the lift was conducted on a carpeted Eleiko platform, forcing Thor to make last-minute adjustments to his approach. Despite these challenges, the lift was successful and, notably, performed in full competition conditions.
Strength Meets Data: Thor x VDURA at SC24
VDURA’s collaboration with Thor has been building toward moments like this. At the SC24 conference in Atlanta, Thor headlined the “VDURA Data Lift,” where he symbolically lifted 282.6 petabytes of data using VDURA’s high-performance storage technology. The demo, powered by Phison SSDs, was a show-stopping fusion of physical power and data-driven performance.
Engaging Audiences at ISC25
Just one month before the record-breaking deadlift, Thor made another appearance with VDURA at ISC25 in Hamburg. There, he joined us at Booth G21 for the ‘VDURA AI Data Challenge,’ where conference attendees tested their strength in a live data-themed competition. His presence brought both gravity and excitement to the floor and positioned VDURA as a force in high-performance computing.
Why VDURA? The Backbone of Performance
At VDURA, we deliver high-performance storage and data management solutions purpose-built for AI, HPC, and mission-critical workloads. Our platforms support organizations pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
What sets us apart? It comes down to three core principles: velocity, durability, and reliability. These aren’t just product features—they’re operational imperatives. Whether your team is managing petabytes of unstructured data or scaling across hybrid infrastructure, VDURA is built to handle the pressure and deliver consistent, uncompromising performance.
That’s why our partnership with Hafþór Björnsson isn’t just a collaboration, it’s a shared philosophy. Thor represents what we engineer for: extreme power, calculated execution, and undeniable resilience. Just as he prepared meticulously for his record-breaking 505 kg lift, we build infrastructure that lifts the digital world’s heaviest challenges.
VDURA doesn’t just move data. We move it with purpose, with force, and without compromise.
Data strength has a new name, and it’s VDURA.
Final Word
Whether it’s petabytes or plates, VDURA builds the infrastructure and Thor brings the force. Stay tuned for what’s next. Because if history is any indication, 505 kg won’t stand for long.
