6. Specifying Sizes and Quotas
Flags like --hard-quota, --soft-quota, and --quota accept a number with a size suffix. Decimal (SI) and binary (IEC) suffixes are distinct; don’t mix them up:
| Suffix | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
B (or no suffix) |
Bytes | --quota=500B |
KB / MB / GB / TB / PB |
Decimal (powers of 1000) | --quota=10GB → 10,000,000,000 bytes |
KiB / MiB / GiB / TiB / PiB |
Binary (powers of 1024) | --quota=10GiB → 10,737,418,240 bytes |
Suffixes are case-insensitive, and a space before the suffix is fine (10 GB). Fractional values (1.5GB) are rejected; use a smaller unit instead (1500MB).
