1. Introduction

1.1 Important Note Regarding VDURA System GUI Options

Vantage is VDURA’s new GUI to manage V5000 storage hardware. As of this release, it does not yet fully cover all aspects of system management. Users wishing to use a GUI for system administration tasks not yet covered in Vantage can switch to the legacy PanActive Manager GUI via the link at the bottom of the left nav bar. Conversely, there is new functionality in Vantage that is not available in PanActive Manager. Users in PanActive Manager can switch to Vantage with the VANTAGE UI link in the upper-right corner of the page.

The next several PanFS releases will continue to add functionality to Vantage until PanActive Manager can be fully deprecated.

The VDURA Data Platform User Guide, which covers PanActive Manager, is available on the VDURA documentation portal.

1.2 What Vantage Is

Vantage is VDURA’s web-based management console for a VDURA storage realm. It is the graphical counterpart to panctl: where panctl is a command-line client for scripting and automation, Vantage is a browser UI for day-to-day visual administration: dashboards, guided create/edit forms, tables you can filter and sort, and confirmation dialogs before anything destructive happens.

1.3 How Vantage Relates to panctl and PanAPI

Vantage and panctl are independent clients of the same backend REST service (PanAPI/vdura-api). Neither of them wraps another, and none is more authoritative; they both read and write the same underlying state:

  • A StorageSet, volume, tenant, or user created in Vantage is immediately visible to panctl (e.g. panctl storagesets list), and vice versa.
  • Vantage’s Audit Log panels (see 5.3, 9.2, and 10.2) show the same records as panctl audit list.
  • Vantage’s Events panels show the same feed as panctl events list.
  • The Alerts table in Status Center (see 5) shows the same active-alert set as panctl alerts list.

Vantage does not expose every panctl capability, and panctl does not expose every UI convenience (for example, the Dashboard’s visual capacity charts). Treat them as complementary front ends to the same realm.

1.4 Audience and Scope of This Guide

This guide is written for VDURA storage administrators who will use Vantage to monitor and configure a realm: reviewing health, managing StorageSets and volumes, and managing tenants and users. It walks through every page, panel, button, and modal in the UI, explaining what each screen is telling you and what each control does.
